Mortgage Haiku?

haiku5 Mortgage Haiku?Bay Area Mortgage Broker Mike Mueller has added a new twist to the current mortgage crisis – Japanese Haiku.  Mike has written 17 haiku poems about the state of our mortgage industry as entries to the Mortgage Creative Writing Challenge.   Each is set with a piece of Japanese art as a backdrop.

From Mike’s blog:

The traditional Japanese Haiku format follows the syllable pattern of 5 – 7 – 5.
The writer might bring in a word or concept (kiga) that evokes memories of a particular season.
The last line is usually in sharp contrast (caesura) to the body of the poem.

Here are some of his best works, in my humble opinion:

Homeownership Dreams?

Or a Financial Nightmare?

 I am Your Mortgage

and

Lenders Imploding

Mailers and Cold Calls Now Fail

Must Adapt My Plan!

I am really happy that someone has found a creative outlet in the midst of this mess – but I must admit, I have always wondered how Haiku made sense.  I find myself wondering how the current mortgage mess makes sense too, so perhaps there is synergy here somewhere.

Don't think I've ever seen a  mortgage related Haiky before. Very creative!

  • The above statement is seen to be contradictory. The situation is very critical and need an experience complainer to resolve it.

I agree! I thought this was the most unique way of turning a negative situation into a positive that I have ever seen.
  • Jason Sardi and I teamed up to hold this writing challenge on ActiveRain, a real estate network, in an effort to better educate the public about mortgages. Our hope is to encourage more engaging forms of presenting this typically dry topic. The final judging hasn't yet taken place, but suffice it to say that Mike's haiku series is one of the most creative entries to date. He already towers above most of his peers with his engaging and informative style. Why can't mortgages be fun??
  • Thanks you so very much for the mention Brenda.

All this attention and I'm just a little halfway done with the series. Wow!
