Thinking BIG In Berkeley: Top Homes for Sheer, Unadulterated Space
If it’s true, as they say, that it’s a buyers’ market, then I think a little bullishness is in order. Today we are going to think big—literally—and look at homes currently on the market in Berkeley which offer space in spades—in excess of 3,000 square feet to be precise.
I think it’s time to get picky and everyone always wants more room—size matters don’t you think?
There are 11 in all but let’s strip out the 5 in the stratospheric price bracket (meaning over $2m), which leaves us with 6 homes with room to spare, presented in descending order of size:
3,835 sq ft: 1607 Martin Luther King Jr Way in central Berkeley is a recently rebuilt 6/2.5 Craftsman duplex with “huge developed” studio with separate entrance at street level. Price: $1,290,000—$336/sq ft.
3,600 sq ft: 1808 Fifth Street in west Berkeley (above left) has been on the market 135 days and they’re not budging on the $1,699,000 sticker price. It’s a 3/2.5 elegant Victorian with dramatic spaces with rentable work units included—$472/sq ft.
3,500 sq ft: 797 San Diego Road is a 4/4 Mediterranean across from John Hinkel Park in north Berkeley with Bay views. Price: $1,289,000—368/sq ft.
3,479 sq ft: 117 El Camino Real (above right) is a 4/3 Mediterranean with views in the Claremont ‘hood with a “great big rumpus room”. Price: $1,195,000—$343/sq ft.
3,466 sq ft: 128 Vicente Road, in the Claremont hills, is a 3/4 with an updated kitchen, decks for the Bay views and a “walk-in pantry”. Price: $1,250,000—$361/sq ft.
3,254 sq ft: 430 Vassar Road is a 5/4 1930s home in north Berkeley with views, a separate apartment and not one but two formal dining rooms in need of updating. Price: $1,250,000—$384/sq ft.
