Blowin’ in the Wind

windsurger Blowin in the WindThe biggest complaint my husband has had for the past twelve years about the Foster City location of the company he worked for, is that it was always windy. Always. I imagine that if you live there, you get accustomed to it (much like the windsurfer at right), but he found it frustrating to have to wear a sweater every summer day and when he went to the driving range to hit balls on his lunch break, he never could figure out how to compensate for all the wind (unless he was on the upper deck with the wind at his back, and then he could hit like Tiger Woods). Nonetheless, this city based on landfill has its proponents, and there are a wide variety of abodes available, on and off its many waterways. Townhouses, condos, attached homes and single family residences co-exist, along with a city that probably has more parks and open space than any other on the Peninsula (the advantage of a master plan for a community).

At present, I found 44 listings for this eastside community; 31 of which are condos or townhouses. Prices range from $329,888 for a 1/1 condo to $1,688,000 for a 5/2.5 single family home. The majority of these listings are two bedroom/two bath units running around 1250 square feet, in the $500-600,000 price range. There are several areas that have concentrations of listings, such as Meridian Bay (all on the low end), Admiralty Lane and Compass Lane in the midrange, to the upper priced homes along Sea Spray Lane and Blvd.

The most recent listings are as follows:

800 Sea Spray Lane #216, 1/1, 995 sf, $439,000
This end unit overlooks the lagoon and is painted some eye-popping colors. The secure building has HOA dues of $450.

774 Comet Dr, 3/2, 1,1290 sf, $699,000
Two-level townhouse with wood deck. HOA: $235. Last sold in 2000 for $439,000.

247 Pelican Court, 4/2, 1780 sf, $998,888
Very nice single family home with $100k in upgrades, including a great kitchen. Open Sunday 1-4pm, taking offers on 4/8.

5105 Admiralty Lane, $489,000 2/2 1,247 sf, DOM:3
This is apparently a ground floor condo with large patio. However, the listing agent got lazy and only posted pics of the complex, not the unit itself, which makes me a bit wary (of both the condition of the home and the agent).

1024 Windjammer Circle, 5/2.5, 2,830 sf, $1,688,000
Brand new listing with no pics as yet. Remodeled and upgraded SFR, this is the most expensive current listing in town. Open Sunday 1-4 pm.

Disclaimer: Please note that there may be additional properties for sale in Foster City, but if an agent typed in the city as San Mateo rather than Foster City (which in hindsight appears to have happened), it would not have shown up in my search.

  • Ouch! that is the downside of living in an HOA community.

  • A reader of my blog said that the Admiralty complex is going to be going under renovations and each condo owner will probably be charged 40k to 60k each.
