Mansion Mondays: Los Gatos
Here’s a chance to own your own family compound. Today’s listing, the priciest existing home on the market in the upscale community of Los Gatos, features 4 homes on 21 acres and is called Z’Estate. (You might think about renaming the property, as that sounds a bit clunky to me.) You can move right into a 6000 square foot Victorian, give the in-laws a two-story 2800 square foot home, put the college grads into the guest house (which has 2 rental units), and still have a spare 2800 square foot caretaker’s cottage (for the caretaker?). We’re talking over 12,000 square feet of residential living space, with 15 bedrooms and 12 baths.
While the property photos from the MLS feed are skimpy and don’t tell us much, there is an external link which is more helpful. The Victorian looks more like a large townhouse project in Foster City, but the second house with its dark brown wood-shingle siding is charming. The third house seems unremarkable, but the private cottage (guest house) fits right into the rural setting and is also wood-shingled.
The property itself features walking trails, a creek, picnic grounds overlooking a koi pond, and outdoor snack bar—kind of like your own local park. If you have a green thumb (or your caretaker does), you can enjoy the fenced vegetable gardens (to keep the pesky deer away) and greenhouse for year-round tomatoes. The large foyer can be dressed with flowers from your own garden, and repairs for the Victorian can take place in the workshop. There is a barn, which I envision would make a good spot to hold outdoor functions, like a hoe-down or fundraiser auction for your favorite charity. All this and it’s close to downtown Los Gatos!
I actually loved this property. While the homes are too large for my taste, it is a dream to own a family compound like this, with acreage, but still close to amenities. (Yes, I want it all.) But the price tag is waaaaaay out of reach for me, and most of our readers. But if you’re interested, it is on the market (25 days) and can be yours for $13,900,000. Just invite me over to drool once you move in.
