Summertime in Emerald Hills

With the warm weather hitting us smack dab in the face, we know that summertime is just around the corner. One of my hallmarks for summer is the opening of Emerald Lake, which begins this year on May 24th. The lake is the summer hangout for kids in the hills of Redwood City, and a fun place for families to gather. Summer memberships are sold each year (sorry, all sold out this year), and special events happen all summer long. This weekend, in addition to the lake opening back up, there will be a Memorial Day barbecue and all residents in the hills are invited.

If you’d like to be able to partake of the barbecue and have a summer (or year-round) membership in the Emerald Lake Country Club (image above), you might think about checking out the 40+ homes currently for sale in the hills. Here are a few of the newer listings, some of which will be open this weekend.

1975 Cordilleras, 2/1, 580 sf, $674,516
I’m cheating here, because this isn’t a new listing (it’s been on the market for 2 months), but it is the cheapest home in Emerald Hills. The main house is a 2/1 with only 580 square feet; however there is a lower level basement with laundry room, two bonus rooms, and a second bathroom. Sitting on a 10,000 sf lot, this home is set way up off the street, which helps mute the road noise. They’ve dropped the price $25k, which isn’t much in the scheme of things, but it might be worth stopping by for the Open House on Sunday 1:30-4:30.

628 Lakeview Way, 4/3.5, 2880 sf, $1,189,000
You can actually saunter down to the lake from this multi-level home. Eighteen years old, it appears well appointed, with two master suites and lots of room to move around. Open Sunday 1:30-4:30.

570 S. Oak Park Way, 4/2, 1870 sf, $1,199,000
Built in 1973, my guess is that this house has only had 1 owner. Currently a Trustee Sale, the home is vacant but in good condition. Could use some updating and landscaping, and maybe just a bit lower price to sell quickly. Open Saturday and Sunday 1:30-4:30

549 Lakeview Way, 5/3.5, 3600 sf, $1,788,000
A Two-Fer. That’s right, you get two homes. The first is a 3/2.5 and next door is a 2/2. Perfect for extended families. In fact, I looked to buy this home back in 1995 with my parents. It was too rich for my blood, as well as for others, as it was taken off the market without selling back then.

266 Sylvan Way, 3/3.5, 2920 sf, $1,695,000
In addition to the main home, there is an attached full in-law unit, perfect for a parent, nurse, nanny, or that college grad that is coming home for a while. Love the master bath, and the master closet…holy moley, I couldn’t fill that in a million years. Built in 1990, it sold in 1991 for $535,000. Not a bad return on their money.
