996 Willow: New Eco-Friendly Community

996willow 996 Willow: New Eco Friendly CommunityClarum Homes, a Palo-Alto based builder, features environmental innovations in home building. Less than ten years old, this eco-friendly company started out installing solar panels in their communities, developed the zero-energy Enviro-Homeā„¢ in 2002, and is now at the forefront of green building.

Their newest Bay Area venture is 996 Willow in Menlo Park, a small 12-home community. The modern-looking single family homes are all 3-bedroom and priced at $998,000. Built using eco-friendly building materials, each home has systems in place to assure energy efficiency and water conservation. These features include: optional solar power, high performance insulation, high-efficiency lighting, low VOC paint, dual flush toilet, water conserving landscaping, and bamboo floors, among others.

The homes are on three levels with two-car garage and bedroom/bath on the lower level. The second floor has a second bedroom, full bath, small deck, and kitchen + great room. The kitchen has Euro-style cabinets, Bosch appliances, granite counters and bamboo flooring. The top floor houses the master bedroom, walk-in closet, full bath with separate shower and tub, a study loft, and outdoor deck.

996 Willow is located off Willow Road, with easy access to Highway 101. The development may experience road noise from heavily traveled Willow Road and the highway itself. Seven of the twelve homes are still available, and the model is open Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 5 pm.

    thanks for that information JD.

The development is in the upper right hand corner of MENLO PARK SCHOOL DISTRICT 89, as evidenced by the linked map provided by the school district at http://www.mpcsd.org/images/bo...

These builder's promotional materials state that hese homes have been zoned in the MENLO PARK SCHOOL DISTRICT and are NOT in the ravenswood school district.

  • Icestone? That's a new one on me. I looked it up and it seems like an interesting and viable choice. I am thinking about redoing my kitchen, so I will investigate further.

  • These homes make a significant step in the right direction as they offer lots of green components.

A couple of sore spots stick out-last time we checked granite slab counters and redwood fencing weren't exactly on the sustainable/renewable resource list. Why not use Icestone or the equivalent for the counters and the there can be other fence wood that could be used.

  • Buyers should note that these are in Ravenswood school district, not Menlo Park city elementary.
