They had a small feature on this on 60 minutes
last week. Might still be on the 60 minutes web site. They quoted prices up by 5X, and during the tour 60 minutes noted the place was like a ghost town.

Smells like a Dubai bubble.

Dubai = oil... you can guess what that means about the economy. Dubai is one of the few oil countries trying to bet their future on something other than oil since they know they will run out someday... quite smart.

Yikes! That is very expensive! Mind you I have no idea of what the economy is like in Dubai. I think I will do some research on it though. Thank you for your input nima!

Sue,

This is NOT a landfill. This is a picture of one of three palm project they have. They call it land reclamation. This is built where ocean used to be. They pour enough stone and concrete to raise the ocean floor, and then built on it. It's crazy shit. The prices have threepeld since they started selling them. they now range anywhere from $2 to $5 million for villas. Just google Palm Dubai.

mrbogue,
I lived in the Eureka area in the late 70's to early 80's and most places were pristine. Went there a couple of years ago and some of it had changed. While it is a beautiful place, getting a job there is a different story. For those of us that were from somewhere else and moved to that area we referred to it as 'behind the Redwood curtain' because it seemed fairly isolated at the time.

Hi Sue.Herz,
Wow, my father used to live in Eureka for a time and I spent many summers there, enjoying its' rustic natural beauty. As for beach-front property, one town I noticed was Gualala, CA. Passing through in 2002 I saw some really beautiful pristine, opalescent beaches devoid of structures. (That was pre-boom, not sure what its is like now...)
