Mansion Monday: A $45,000,000 Beauty
I had a tough time running down the cities in Santa Clara County looking for the next mansion to ogle at. So far, I haven’t had a problem finding a large house on a large piece of property, but I ran into problems mid-county. Nothing over $2.5 mil in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale or Milpitas. Mountain View has one property over $2.5mil, a 2 bedroom “shack” on a large sub-dividable piece of land. The value (offered at $4.4 million) is in the land, and the small home means the listing does not qualify as a mansion. Moving on, I finally had success in Los Altos Hills. In fact, Los Altos Hills has 33 listings over $2.5mil, and 10 homes over $5,000,000, with today’s winner pricing out at $45,000,000 and truly an estate worth writing about.
Located at 12335 Stonebrook Drive, this home built in 1914 looks more like it came out of an English fairy tale than a Peninsula city. It looks to me to be
modeled on an English country estate of the Tudor style, and with 7.5 acres of grounds, it would certainly fit into that category. This majestic home, which was remodeled over the last six years, is 30,000 square feet located over four stories. You can pull your coach up the long driveway and circle around to drop your passengers at the base of the steps making the entrance to the castle, all that more dramatic. Adding to the grandeur of the home is the ballroom (rare amongst Bay Area homes), formal wood-paneled library, circular staircase, frescoes, and a master bedroom fit for a king, complete with garden view and marble fireplace. The main house has 7 bedrooms, 8 full baths, and 3 half baths.
The secluded 7.5 acres features formal gardens, fountains, walking paths, and your own private forest. A detached second home of 1,000 square feet is suitable for staff, which you will obviously need, not only to clean the home but to tend to the expansive grounds. This is truly a magnificent piece of property, the finest example of a mansion I have seen thus far in Santa Clara County, and not for the financially faint of heart (taxes alone would run over $550,000 per year).
