Mansion Monday: Sweeping Ocean Views in HMB

ocean view Mansion Monday: Sweeping Ocean Views in HMBJust so you know, as we traveled up the Peninsula, I did not forget La Honda from our little mansionfest. Unfortunately there is nothing over $3mil listed in that town. In fact there is nothing in the $2mil range either. The most expensive home in this forested burg is $999,500, (and the lowest at $399,500). I think La Honda wins the award for the lowest price differential in the whole Bay Area. Hmmm… I wonder.

Moving on, I headed just over the hill to the coast into Half Moon Bay, one of the county’s agricultural cities and home to the annual Pumpkin Festival. Again, housing prices are more modest here, but I was able to find an $8mil property at 17400 S. Cabrillo Highway. Not the stuff of legends, no English country estate, and certainly not gilded to any extent, what you do get is a large contemporary home that sits on 25 beautiful acres, right on the ocean’s edge. Imagine waking up each day to the lapping (or even crashing) of the waves, enveloped in fog.

I have to say that I like the idea of the 25 secluded acres, which go from Highway 1 all the way to the sandy beach. The 5 bedroom, 4 bath home has only been on the market 13 days but it may be and estate estate (no I’m not stuttering). Given the fact that court confirmation is required, this may be part of an estate that is being probated by the courts. Usually a minor inconvenience. The grounds also contain a barn, in-law apartment, studio, and small guest house. And if you are an avid golfer, the Ritz Carlton course is a golf cart ride away. (Maybe you can even hear the RC bagpiper play each night at sundown.) I was disappointed that there were no interior shots at all, but it is not listed as a fixer-upper. I imagine that you could build something much more ostentatious and extreme on a property this large, although given that it is zoned PAD (planned area development), the property may go to a developer, depending on what restrictions were put on the PAD designation. That would be a shame, but certainly the way of the world these days.
