Peninsula Weekend: Check Out the County Fair and Some Well-Priced Homes

The San Mateo County Fair starts today and runs through Sunday, August 17th. Held annually at the San Mateo County Event Center, this summer jamboree has something for everyone. And while you’re in the area, check out one of the open homes listed below.

sheep Peninsula Weekend: Check Out the County Fair and Some Well Priced HomesLivestock Exhibit and Sale: Come see the cows, sheep, hogs, goats, rabbits, poultry, and exotic/game birds. Witness dog obedience trials or a horse show. This is a great educational experience for kids. They can see a variety of livestock in all states of repose and grooming, watch horses get put through their paces, and get a taste of what 4-H is really about.

Exhibits: There is something for everyone in the exhibit halls, so make sure to bring grandma and the kids.

  • HOME ARTS: Quilting, crafts, woodworking, sewing
  • CULINARY ARTS: Winemaking, baking, canning, table settings
  • FINE ARTS: Visual arts, technology, literary arts
  • AGRICULTURE: flower arranging, educational exhibits, gorgeous flowers of all types, fruits and vegetables of all sizes
  • GARDEN LANDSCAPE: Inspiring ideas in a variety of motifs

In fact there are over 35 rides available, with a special section for younger children. Hit the Midway and play old-fashioned carnival games or indulge in cotton candy, corndogs, or deep-fried Twinkies.

Concerts: Ten days of talent includes KC & the Sunshine Band, The Village People, Lucha Libre, Drew Seeley, Tower of Power, Pat Monahand, Weird Al Yanovic and Billy Ray Cyrus.

Horse Racing: In conjunction with neighboring Bay Meadows, horse races will be run for the duration of the fair, culminating in the final day of racing at Bay Meadows, before it shutters its doors forever.
