Redwood City to Update General Plan

fox Redwood City to Update General Plan

Over the course of the next year, Redwood City will be revising and implementing a new General Plan. It’s been 18 years since the current General Plan was put in place, and the face and needs of the city and its population have changed since then. To keep up with the times, the city will be soliciting input on a new long-range blueprint for the city that boasts “Climate Best by Government Test.” Your input will help planners understand citizens’ preferences in four major areas:

• Economic vitality (including revenue, jobs, services)
• Development and preservation of neighborhoods
• Plan for sustainable open space, water, energy, and air quality
• Preserving cultural, educational and economic diversity and historic heritage

Citizens will have the opportunity to discuss land use, transportation, housing, open space, and safety, among others at a General Plan Workshop scheduled for September 27th. Once input is incorporated, an online survey, draft of the plan and fiscal analysis will be available in the winter for all to review and comment upon. Further work will be done to refine the General Plan, and in Spring 2009 there will be a public review of the draft, done in conjunction with public meetings. A final Plan is scheduled to be announced and completed in the Summer of 2009.

So mark your calendars for Saturday, September 27th, 9am to noon, head over to the beautifully renovated Courthouse Square to hear what our city leaders have to say, the changes they are planning to make, and have your voice heard. Meanwhile, you can keep tabs on what is happening over at the City of Redwood City website.
