Mansion Mondays: Brand New Burlingame Abode

Well, almost brand new. This 4,890 square foot home was completed in 2007 in the hills above Burlingame, on the edge of the Hillsborough border. The property last sold in October of 2005 for $1,8250,000 and two years later this new home was built and ready for occupancy. Set on only .51 acres, this Spanish-style home at 185 Los Robles is currently listed for $3,498,000 and has only been on the market 31 days. (I saw no mention of prior listings on the current MLS listing.)

Pulling up to the home from the street, you are greeted by a modern-looking fence and gate, offering privacy to residents. The front porch leads you into a foyer and a formal, but somewhat small, living room. There does not appear to be a separate dining room, and the existing room, adjacent to the kitchen, would not accommodate a table worthy of most mansions (meaning seating 12-20 people). The kitchen is well appointed, but lacks significant counter workspace or functional island, but that could be easily remedied. Both these rooms do have gorgeous views.

The master bedroom is large and open with a large marble encased spa-style bath in one corner. Large windows and multiple sliders let in light and afford views of the Peninsula and Bay. There is also a junior master suite, but it faces the street and front yard, and window placements do not allow for easy placement of a bed. The floors, however, are travertine with inlaid Brazilian cherrywood, a very nice high-end touch. Three other bedrooms and two other baths complete the private areas.

The home also comes with a wine cellar and tasting room. Multiple balconies grace this home on both levels, for dining, relaxing and entertaining. A large pool area surrounded by an Indian tile terrace, grass and oak trees would make a great place to hang out, especially at night with those killer views. The expanse of lawns would be great for children, croquet, and I imagine you could put in a putting green if so desired.

This is not the largest of most majestic of mansions we have seen, and really doesn’t quite fit into the “mansion” category, due to style and lot size. But it’s over the $3mil mark, has some nice amenities and I think that this would make a great home for a family.
