Hey,

Luv to hear about Mt Vernon Square--and have been watching to get in on the more realistic prices at the Whitman (910 M St) There is one unit that I like because it is a one-bedroom but has the den (it is small--but has a window!) I can use for my desk and office work. It also has a 1/2 bath for when my guests come over! If I remembber it is unit 803 or 903. The owner bought it for around 500k a year and a half ago---now its on the market for 449000--only 10k more than much more limited units on lower levels. Thnking about making an offer-----i will let you know--But does anyone else have any comments about the Whitman?

Peace---John

Hi Mari,

Thanks so much for the input. I know about most of these neighborhoods only in a general sense, and I appreciate the extra insight. You make a good point about subjectivity and tolerance levels.

Thanks for stopping by!

Whether an area is dicey or cool can vary depending on your tolerance level and what hours you're running around.
There are a lot of car break ins (counts as crime) where I am near MVSQ but I don't own a car, so that's not a huge factor. Well for me at least.

Hi Leo,

As I mentioned above, I have heard things about Mt. Vernon Square that lead me to believe it's a bit dicey. BUT I am definitely not an expert on that area, and I could be completely wrong about that. Allison Scuriatti is our DC writer, and she is way more familiar with DC neighborhoods than I am, so I'll be sure to direct her here to answer you question. In the meantime, be sure to check our blogroll (on the right side of the page), which is full of local neighborhood blogs - including one for Mt. Vernon Square.

Jughead,

Yes, the prices caught my attention, too. It's surprising because of its proximity to some major attrations. However, I think there is a good reason for that, since I've read some things that indicate to me the area might be a little dicey.

Thanks for *noticing* that I'm covering more of DC these days!

hi! thanks for this update - I have one question about what do you think about safety in this and neighboring areas? For example I have seen a place nearby 11th and M and looking at crime reports online I was not very clear about how safe would it be? Any suggestion?
Thanks

Wow...that price seems cheap for a 2 BR, 2 BA condo downtown. I would've thought that area would be at a higher premium.

Thanks for covering more of DC these days, btw.
